Fruit Tree Guild

Method to the madness ~ Each Type of Tree has a 'community' that requires a special grouping of plants.  
Each plant in the guild provides a function: 
  • Supporting Soil Life
  • Cover the Ground to Promote Moisture
  • Feeding the Tree
  • Balance Insects (to eat pests!)
  • Discouraging Critters
  • Encouraging Pollinators 
  • Provide more food! 

The fun begins when you select and arrange the combinations of functions important to the tree! 
 
  • Fixers: Nitrogen-fixing plants (clover, beans, etc.) enrich the soil. 
  • Attractors: Plants that attract pollinators and beneficial insects (dill, fennel, etc.). 
  • Repellents: Plants that deter pests (marigolds, garlic, etc.). 
  • Suppressors: Plants that suppress weeds (strawberries, clover, etc.). 
  • Mulchers: Plants that provide natural mulch (comfrey, rhubarb, etc.). 
  • Accumulators: Plants that draw nutrients from deeper soil layers (yarrow, chicory, etc.).
